Maison Roche de Bellene is the négociant label of Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy, also the mastermind behind Domaine de Bellene.

Founded in 2009, the emphasis at Roche de Bellene is on individual terroirs from vieilles vignes (old vines — 40 years or older) that are farmed responsibly.

The village of Gerry-Chambertin is generally considered to be the finest for red wines in the Côte d’Or. The grapes utilized for this bottling hail from a 1 ha vineyard site within Gevrey-Chambertin, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits and protected by the hill of Saint-Jacques. After harvest the grapes undergo cool maceration and native yeast fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel. The wine experiences 100% malolactic fermentation before maturing on its fine lees in French oak, of which 10% is new. The wine is bottled with zero fining and very light filtration.

Aromatically the wine has nuances of tart red cherries and brambly raspberries, with balancing scents of fine tobacco. The palate is juicy while still elegant, with mineral driven acidity and dusty tannins.. The finish is the best part and lingers on and on and on (Queue the music 🎵 ).
