Aslina Umsasane 2019, Western Cape, SA

from $36.00

A spectacularly balanced and smooth Cab blend. As one of South Africa’s iconic winemakers, Ntsiki Biyela has forged a path to become a highly respected and widely admired name in the world of wine. In 2016, she established Aslina Wines, inspired by the strength and determination of the biggest influence in her life, her grandmother (nicknamed 'Umsasane'). This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Umsasane is the umbrella tree (Acacia tortilis) that shades and protects. The bold structure, smoothness and complexity of this wine reflects the characteristics of Aslina, the matriarch of the family. Really well-made wine.

Saxon Brown is one of those special wineries. The kind that doesn’t come along all that often, that you wish you could drink every day and share with everyone you know. Well, I guess some can and I kind of am sharing it with everyone I know 🤔…

Bottom line: Winemaker Jeff Gaffner is one of the best winemakers out there. He’s truly passionate about his craft, without being a douche about it (Bonus!) and he’s just an overall great human being. When it comes to his wines, everything he touches turns to gold. So whether you’re drinking his semillon, his unreal Syrah or one of his 6 Pinot Noirs, you will NEVER be disappointed. He just nails it, across the board.
